KAUAI DESTINATION WEDDING: BRENDA & DAVE

Kauai is often described as heaven on earth with gorgeous beaches, lush gardens, dramatic cliffs, and sultry sunsets. The exceptional ocean views and white sand beaches make Kauai, Hawaii, the most romantic destination to get married. It’s no wonder over 11,000 couples tie the knot here every year.

Brenda and Dave were set to get married before the pandemic forced lockdowns all over the world. Their family and friends started to cancel their bookings as the pandemic showed no signs of slowing down. Reluctantly, Brenda and Dave decided to postpone their big day. The time finally arrived when they felt they could confidently schedule their wedding. I was honored they asked me to be a part of the day as their Wedding Photographer.

Brenda and I had met when I began working with her as a surgery nurse. Over lunch, one day, Brenda and I discussed her rapidly approaching wedding. She asked for my input on her wedding supplier service. With my experience as a wedding photographer, she knew she could count on my expertise to see if she was getting a good deal. Although the photography package she had purchased from a photographer in Kauai was great, I pointed out she was missing some essentials that would make her wedding photos even better. I was able to show her my website with my sample albums and was able to lay out how I would approach her wedding album if it were up to me.

Brenda approved my wedding photography proposal instantly. I was thrilled that she chose me to help capture her big day and bring her joy with her wedding photos. As an added perk, I knew I would be able to travel to Kauai with travel perks. What a dream job!

Brenda and Dave had a short timeline before their wedding day when they hired me. To ensure they had the best stress-free experience, I knew I had to be tactful without bombarding them with questionnaires. I wanted to ensure they did not feel rushed. Thankfully, they were incredibly flexible and understanding of the questions I needed to ask, and we were able to move forward with ease with the planning.

As a Bay Area wedding photographer, I was able to meet with Brenda and Dave before we set off on our trip to Kauai. We shot on location at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The two were so happy and fun to work with. I knew the trip to Kauai was going to be great.

The moment finally arrived, and we were officially onsite for a Kauai destination wedding. I brought my wife to work as my consultant and assistant. We met Brenda and Dave in this gorgeous paradise the day before their wedding was a pleasure. They were radiant and just so happy to be there. They brought the same energy they brought during their engagement photo shoot (Check them out here). You could tell they were excited to be married finally.

Kauai is such a lovely island to visit. Kauai is named the “Garden Isle” for a reason. The tiny island is draped in emerald green valleys, sharp mountain peaks, and jagged cliffs that make this island feel like the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. We felt like we were in paradise. I thought to myself, ‘Who wouldn’t want to get married here?’

Before the wedding, my wife and I did a few photoshoots with Brend, Dave, and Brenda’s family on the beach. We managed to get lovely candid shots of the family together while we had the honor of getting to know them. It was never a dull moment, and they were so fun to be around.

The day of the wedding finally arrived, and we headed to the Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club to meet with the bride to go over the final details. The resort was located on a gorgeous beachfront property, and we took the opportunity to take some beautiful portrait shots of the bride while we were there. Just a short walking distance away is the Kiahuna Plantation Resort, where the groom eagerly awaited the moment to marry his bride.

The wedding took place at The Beach House in Koloa, Hawaii. Located on the water’s edge hugging the Poipu beach coastline, this restaurant and wedding venue was gorgeous in every detail; from the beautiful décor to the breathtaking sunsets, the restaurant curated the ceremony to perfection in every detail.

In true Hawaiian style, the ceremony was embodied by Hawaiian tradition and went off without a hitch. There was love and joy in the air, and it was clear the guests were having a great time celebrating Brenda and Dave. The food was top-notch, and it was no surprise with Dave signing off on the cuisine. He is a chef, after all. Brenda and Dave danced the night away, celebrating their new commitment. It was evident by the smile on their face they were happy. I am humbled to be able to share the memories I captured that day.

To Brenda and Dave, thank you for allowing my wife and me to join you in this little slice of paradise. We had a great time and were honored to be able to share these memories with you. May you find years of happiness together with your contagious love.
